Analysis of Toxicologically Critical Compounds in Infant Formulae and Milk
At the request of DG-SANTE the EURL-SRM and the EURL-AO have analysed 80 samples of infant formulae for children up to 16 weeks of age.
The main focus was on pesticides of high toxicity (low ADI-values), for which the default MRL for infant formulae of 0.01 mg/kg is not considered safe for children of this age group.
In addition 54 samples of milk were analyzed as milk is an important raw material used or the production in infant formulae ingredients.
The two EURLs divided the analytes to be analyzed among them, based on their amenability to multiresidue methods (MRMs) or not. The NRLs of the EU member states collaborated in the sampling.
